Last year, the government’s ‘everyone in’ initiative highlighted the extent, and complex nature, of female homelessness.
As part of this year’s 16 Days of activism against gender-based violence, Concrete is proud to provide specialist support to women who have experienced abuse alongside homelessness and complex needs.
Within our Destination: Home service, we provide a unique, female-only supported accommodation, with 23 bedspaces across two schemes.
Team Leader Mariana Sabova oversees our female-only schemes. She explains: “We are proud to be part of a movement where we recognise that the women we support have complex needs and require a unique approach.
“Within both schemes, our experienced staff are able to provide psychologically and trauma informed support and accommodation. We work to create a warm and welcoming environment – we want women to feel and be safe.”
Mariana said that it’s very common for her team to support women who have experienced both homelessness and domestic abuse. We’re upskilling staff to make sure they can continue to provide specialist support around the clock.
Mariana said: “We want our staff to be able to spot the signs of abuse and trafficking, as well as making sure they are confident in handling disclosures.”
At Concrete we’re bringing people and providers together to make real, lasting change. We work with local partners, such as the police, healthcare services, charities and external agencies, to help deliver support in-house.
