A joint effort helps young people to build concrete futures

A joint effort helps young people to build concrete futures

Here at Concrete our teams work with our customers to address the issues preventing them from finding and securing a home of their own.

Duty Practitioner Steve recognized that customer Wayne* was struggling to live independently. To help him, Steve explored all options, looking at education and employment but at every turn faced a barrier.

Thanks to his generous colleagues Steve was able to break through by securing transport and a job for his customer.

“Wayne* came to us before he turned eighteen and was struggling to live independently after he returned to Stoke”, says Steve.

“Initially we planned to secure further education for Wayne*. But when the pandemic hit, it became impossible for him to complete any studies.”

“We supported Wayne* throughout Covid-19, secured his own flat and looked at what other options there were for him to help him stay positive during the difficult time.”

“After his eighteenth birthday I helped him to register with local recruitment agencies. He was later offered a job with a local delivery company.”

“But just when I thought I’d broken through, Wayne* faced another hurdle. His new job was over seven miles from his flat. So how was he going to get to work?”

“I was determined not to give up. I could see the potential in Wayne* so I asked for a little help.”

Concrete is part of Honeycomb Group, a team of social-minded brands that all champion in providing happy homes by providing services and support to help people across Staffordshire and its surrounding areas feel secure, connected and confident.

“Desperate I asked my colleagues at Honeycomb Group if they had a spare bike, they would be willing to donate. I was so overwhelmed with their response. They didn’t just donate a bike, but the fundraising team provided the money for a bike, safety equipment, waterproofs and a lock.”

“It was way more than I had hoped for and Wayne* was so made up. He was so grateful that we were able to help him out at such short notice. It meant he could start his job straight away and was able to now see his mum too.”

Thanks to the generosity of his colleagues Steve was able to remove the barriers facing Wayne*. Helping him towards living independently and building more concrete futures.
