At Concrete, we believe that housing is a right, not a privilege. Everyone has a right to a real home, and we’re fighting to create spaces and opportunities to make sure that happens.
Three months ago, 46-year-old Claire lost her home. We stepped in to provide her with a safe place to live alongside tailored support.
She said: “My ex-partner threatened my neighbours, so we got kicked out and I found myself without anywhere to live.
“It’s been horrible, but it made me realise that he’s not the man for me.
“We had been together for 11 years, so it was hard to cut him out of my life. I felt like I didn’t have anybody.
“I found out about Concrete, and they have been helping me for the past few months.
“The support that I have received has been brilliant.
“I’m going to be moving into my place soon and I can’t wait. I will hopefully be there in time for Christmas.
“The support I’ve had has changed my life so much – I can look on the bright side now.”
Claire was one of several Concrete customers who received a free haircut last week at Chax Barbers in Cobridge.
The barbershop wanted to do something to help men and women impacted by homelessness in the run up to Christmas.
Claire said: “My hair was really long before. I hadn’t had it cut for about a year so it was long overdue.
“This haircut will really boost my confidence and I’m just over the moon to have been given this opportunity. I feel like a million dollars.”
