Concrete granted £3,000 to provide hot meals and essential items this winter

This winter at Concrete, we’re providing our customers with essential items and hearty meals thanks to £3,000 funding from Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

The grant was supplied by the Department of Work and Pensions and administered by the city council from their Christmas food and essential supplies fund.

We’re using the funding across our Destination:Home service, where we support over 50 adults impacted by homelessness. Customers often come to us with very few belongings and a variety of complex needs, so we give them a safe place to live and lots of tailored support.

Funding from the essential supplies fund will help us to provide customers with essential winter items such as warm clothing and toiletries.

It also means that customers will have the chance to cook their own meals and budget for ingredients in each scheme’s communal kitchen. This will help them to develop the skills they need to look after themselves in their own home in the future.

Operations Manager Natalie Robertson said: “We’re always supporting our residents as much as we can, but this helps us to go even further.

“The funding will help us to provide residents with essential items such as toiletries and warm clothing, including coats, shoes, underwear, hats and scarves.

“We’ll also be giving residents the chance to create healthy meals together during January. They’ll contribute to food costs and cook the meals themselves, which will help them develop their cooking and budgeting skills.

“The activity will also provide an opportunity for peer support from fellow residents.

“Over Christmas we used the money to get residents together for a communal Christmas meal and presents, which everyone really enjoyed.

“It’s given our residents a great start to the year, so we want to say a big thank you to Stoke-on-Trent City Council and the Department for Work & Pensions!”
