Sharon from Sainsbury’s Newcastle under Lyme won herself a Sainsbury’s Community Award after being the driving force behind amazing charity work.
Over the last 12 months Sharon has been the motivation behind a community fundraising project that celebrated Sainsbury’s 150th birthday and also supported Concrete’s young care leavers.
Sharon tells us about the award: “To win something is just dead rewarding. I love doing charity work and I’ve been doing it now for over 10 years. Let’s just say if I won the lottery I’d definitely know who I’d be giving my money to!”
With the help of Sainsbury’s staff and customers the project has transformed lives by decorating more than 20 rooms saving Concrete £5,000, raising over £700 to help fund activities for young people and over Christmas donating Christmas presents and food to give those living at Victoria Place a Christmas they truly deserved.
The project has been a community affair with staff and customers of the local supermarket getting involved, as Sharon explains: “It was one of our colleague’s ideas because it was close to her heart. She herself could’ve ended up in care and could very easily of been one of those people.”
“Everyone just loves getting involved and the staff and customers are just so generous, even those who don’t have much themselves get involved. It’s just so heart-warming.”
“I always want to make sure I do things that I’m proud of and its recognition like this award and knowing I’ve helped people, that makes it all worthwhile.”
